about

I love playing with delays and loops with the piano, the surface level simplicity of them but the ripples of complicated reactions that can happen when they unfold. This particular idea came from a little sketch I did when messing with the piano and some FX pedals. I love the slight tension of cycling back and forth between a progression, the rocking motion, the ebb and flow, waiting to release into something bigger which is where the drop happens and the synths and drums come in. Originally I was trying to do it with purely piano but I couldn’t achieve the depth and change in timbre and dynamics that I wanted to feel. It’s called ‘Out’ for a few reasons, the delay and reverb give it a bit of a distance, we’re not ‘in’ we’re out there, somewhere else, in some kind of space but we’re content, we’re building and we’re hopeful. I like how the word ‘Out’ feels, in a way we’re all Out.

Matthew Wilcock London

Producer and composer Matthew Wilcock bridges the gap between neo-classical, electronic and conceptual. His latest EP Paint & Dance sees him leave behind his synth and electronic textures focusing on an intimately recorded felt piano. Gently moving between sorrow, thoughtfully melancholic and uplifting, it's a gentle intimate journey that you will want to revisit and sit with often. ... more
