Building on the idea of ‘Out’, augmenting the piano in a way that felt natural and an interesting part of the arrangement. Those multiple high octave shimmering delays reminded me emotionally a little bit of high register strings in Max Richter’s ‘Spring’ they’re a beautiful texture, these are a little harsher but to me have a similar function. It was such a nice experience to play with them happening live reacting to all the imperfections of the piano and playing.
To me the piece is expecting and wanting it doesn’t give you anything too soon. It opens and then folds back on itself then opens again finally introducing the doubled piano melody that’s echoed by the dulcitone. Quietly triumphant.
